WHICTS is the countywide ICT service stemming from the merger of the ICT services from the Worcestershire Support Services Agency (WSSA) and the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in Dec 2004.
Managed by the Director, John Thornbury, our mission statement is:

To provide a timely, relevant and reliable Information & Communication Technology service to clinicians, managers and operational staff

Vision for the Future -

Giving patients more choice and control over their own health and care and creating a health service "designed around the patient," is at the heart of the Government's vision for the NHS in England.

Over the coming years, modern computer systems, fit for the twenty first century, will be installed in the NHS. Once the work is complete, these systems will, for the first time, connect more than 100,000 doctors, 380,000 nurses and 50,000 other health professionals in England.

This will ensure that the right information is available to the right people at the right time, with all those involved in the care of a patient having secure access to up-to-date, accurate information for diagnosis, treatment and care. It will also enable patients to have easier access to their own health and care information.

Key Principles:

The principles upon which ICT Services will develop have been created with service leads by examining existing and known future requirements, detailing existing service and system arrangements, and outlining potential developments to facilitate the continued ICT support of the county organisation's objectives.  This develops commitment and a shared ownership of ICT.  It promotes:-
  • a service which is information rather than technology lead.
  • a methodical, consistent and professional approach to the delivery of information and information services.
  • a commitment to data and information standards.
  • the continued development of an information culture.
  • the benefits of integrated systems.
  • the importance of exploiting technology appropriately and in a manner that is relevant to the information needs of the users.
The National Programme for Information Technology (NPfIT ), is implemented by the Connecting for Health (CfH)agency.  ICT Services in Worcestershire covers not only the main NPfIT work at a local level, but also all the underpining support elements that go to make up a fully integrated ICT service.  The Directorate is composed of two main services:
IT Operational Services, consisting of:
Operational Services (Desktop Support, IT Service Desk), managed by Pravin Mistry
Network & Server Services, managed by Simon Honeyborne
IT Support elements (Software Development,  IT Security, Technical Advice)
ICT Modernisation, consisting of:
Clinical Informatics(Business Process Change, Benefits Realisation, Defining Clinical Reporting Requirements and Application Support), managed by Jas Cartwright
Programme & Project Management(Programme & Project Development, Performance Management, Management of Risk, Configuration Management), managed by Chris Greening
Education, Training and Development(ETD), (ICT Training Development & Accreditation, Training Policy and Strategic Development), managed by Liz Taylor
Knowledge Management(Library Services & Virtual Services, Development of Access to Evidence), managed by Margaret Rowley
We hope you find this site of use in providing a clear understanding of the ICT Services for Worcestershire and how it will support patient care services in the county.
